Dear Santa,

I sat down to write you this letter and thought, “I’m too tired to do this right now…” and then I realised that this wasn’t something I could just nap away. This kind of tired is just kind of background noise right now. The state in which I live.

So I’m writing you even though I really would like that nap LOL

And also despite the fact that I feel a little weird about this. Because asking for silly, frivolous things when more people than ever are really struggling is complicated and… weird. But I’m doing it anyway as a sort of act of rebellion. I’m embracing the weirdness and going for it.

Also embracing the ridiculousness and just gonna start out with… remember, Santa, when I first started writing you these letters on my blog ten years ago? And remember how that year I told you about how we’d replaced some of the linoleum in our home with tiles but we still needed to purchase and install the little riser things that help the floor transition from the height of the hardwood up to the height of the tile? And remember how I said I was worried if we didn’t buy those and install them they would sort of become invisible and we wouldn’t ever get it done? Remember that? Well, Santa, this year I would very much like it if you could bring us the riser thingys we need so that we can install them…

…but I’m also, at this point, kind of morbidly curious about how long we can go on without doing this LOL

I would also really like a Little Free Library that we can install near the property line of our front yard (or on the boulevard if it’s of the ‘newspaper box’ and thus portable variety). I frequently contribute to the various Little Free Libraries around our neighbourhood but I’d actually really like to have one just outside the door LOL

If a tortilla press were to find its way into my kitchen that would be lovely. I’ve been using a chapati maker/roti roller and it works fine? But a tortilla press seems like it will let me be faster and achieve a more consistent thickness. I’m not actually 100% sure where I’ll keep it — the kitchen, as you know, is quite small and there’s not a lot of free space in it, but I’d figure something out?

I would also love to renew my annual membership to 4TheWords. I’ve been using it pretty consistently over the last year and my current streak is 441 days. Okay, so at least two sevenths of those days have been counted via the ‘Fix for free’ option because I don’t usually write on weekends, but still. I’m enjoying it and would like to continue into 2022. Especially since my goal for next year is to write more than I did this year.

Finally… I’m just superstitious enough to wonder if this pandemic may end if/when I ever solve my microphone woes. So, with that in mind I would love a Blue Yeti USB mic. For purely unselfish reasons, you understand. However, for absolutely frivolous reasons I’d prefer it in ‘Sunset Sky’ colour. Because even though I dunno what it is about this shade that says ‘sunset’ to anyone, the blue is lovely 🙂

So, that’s my Giftmas wishlist for this year.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that there are people with much more serious and pressing things on their list than what’s on mine. I’ve actually organised a fundraiser to help support the food bank and contribute a little drop in the ocean of assistance. So far we’ve raised $420, which is enough to provide over 1200 meals to people. And that is awesome. But the fundraiser still has a few more days to go, so maybe we can make that number go up? That would be the best Giftmas present of all.

Thanks, Santa!

Best,

Me
