This year instead of running a Giftmas Blog Tour fundraiser in December, we’re going to try something new — a create-a-thon in November!
How it works:
- Creators (that’s you!) sign up and set a goal for what they want to create over the month of November as a part of this fundraiser. This can be anything. “I want to knit a sweater”, “I want to write 50k words”, “I want to draw 30 sketches”. Whatever you want to work on that is creative totally counts.

- Creators tell people (Friends, family, fans) about their participation in this create-a-thon and ask them to either donate directly to the fundraiser or pledge to donate if the creator reaches their goal. Pledges can be lump sum things, (“I pledge to donate $10 to the fundraiser if you successfully write one poem a day for all of November.”) or they can be dependent upon how much a creator does (“I will donate $1 for every 1,000 words you write in November.”).
- In the month of November, Creators create.
- On December 1st, Creators report back to their friends, family and fans about how successful they were in achieving their goals and remind those people about their pledge.
- Victory!
The fundraiser will be open to accept donations through to December 10th, giving people plenty of time to honour their pledges.
I imagine myself doing some spotlight things to highlight those of us who are creating over the month of November, as well as adding in a couple Kickstarter-like incentives (‘If we reach $1000 in donations everyone will be able to download X free’ or ‘If we reach $2000 in donations, everyone who donates will receive this super awesome keychain’ or whatever) but creators are under no obligation to participate or do anything similar.
In order to participate you will need:
- A goal
- A way to tell people about your participation (word-of-mouth, a blog, social media, skywriting, whatever)
- The ability to keep track of any pledges made to you (a piece of paper, spreadsheet, comments section on your blog)
That’s it.
You don’t even technically need to sign up. But if you do sign up I will be able to send you promotional graphics, include your goal on our fundraiser page, spotlight you and keep you looped in as things progress.

Timeline:
Now – Creators sign up and start collecting pledges and donations.
November – Creators create and may certainly continue to collect pledges and donations if they want.
December 1 – Creators share how successful they were in reaching their goals and remind people who pledged about their pledge.
December 10 – Fundraiser closes to pledges and donations.
