Dear Santa,
Wow. It’s been a year, hey? On the plus side, overall, I feel a lot better right now than I did at this time of year last year. That is a pretty big win and I’m stoked about it. I hope things are starting to look up for you at the North Pole, even if it is just a little bit.
Part of the reason things got a bit better for me is that when I felt myself spiraling into burnout or depression or a mid-life crisis or whatever the crap that was I just cut back on all the ‘work’ things, burrowed into my blanket fort and dove headfirst into a shitload of D&D. The thinking was that it would be totally low-pressure escapism that would still exercise the part of my brain dedicated to telling stories. I dunno how sound that logic is, really, but it seemed to work? So, yay D&D!
I’m playing it all online these days though — I’m in several groups and none of them have all the members in the same city. We use Roll20, which I really love but there is one major obstacle I keep running into and that is a lack of space on my monitor. I would like to attempt to solve that problem by adding a second monitor. I know my desk is pretty cluttered already, but I’m pretty sure I can make it work and it will make my life a whole lot easier on the games I run.
Oh, also? Remember eleven years ago when I started writing these letters to you and I mentioned that we’d replaced some of the flooring in our house but we still needed to buy and install the little riser things that help the floor transition from the height of the hardwood up to the height of the tile? And way back then I told you that I was worried if we didn’t buy those and install them they would sort of become invisible and we wouldn’t ever get it done? Well, Santa, this year I would very much like it if you could bring us the riser thingys we need so that we can install them…
…not even kidding.
Otherwise… I mean, I’m good. There are a few other things I could think of that I’d like but my family and I are doing a different kind of Giftmas this year — one with fewer gifts and with an emphasis on homemade ones — and one of the side-effects of that is that I’m thinking more about the other aspects of the holiday than presents. Food, mostly :-p
As my thoughts turn to what I’m going to cook for my family for Giftmas it’s a good time to mention that I’m participating in a fundraiser to benefit the Edmonton food bank again this year. Because not everyone is as lucky as I am when it comes to being able to afford to buy groceries. I know how tough that can be, especially at the holidays, so I’m excited to be able to help through the Giftmas Fundraiser to benefit the Edmonton food bank.
If you could spread the word around the North Pole (in case any of your elves want to donate) that would be wonderful. Donations can be made here –> https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/2022-giftmas-fundraiser/ and if the elves are low on cash right now a signal boost would also be incredible.
Thanks Santa! Happy ho ho!
Best,
Rhonda
