Over the course of this month I want to take a moment to shine a spotlight on some of the creators who have signed up for this year’s Giftmas Create-A-Thon. I think it’s really easy to get caught up in the numbers of, like, how many donations, and how much money is raised — and obviously that is important. But it’s also really important to celebrate the people who have signed up to participate in this fundraiser in an attempt to leave the world better than they found it.
Today’s spotlight is on me. Because I thought I should probably also answer the questions I asked my fellow participants LOL
🙂
(The desktop of my computer. And before you ask which monitor lemme let you in on a little secret — I only have one monitor. The text on the image says, “Does she smile or does she mouth ‘fuck you forever’?” and you absolutely get bonus points if you love that song too 😉 )
What made you sign-up for the Create-A-Thon?
I wasn’t sure if I should run a fundraiser this year, to be honest. The state of my social media — which is where most of the donations seem to come from — these days is a mess. Mostly I’m screaming into a void… and, actually, since this fundraiser started I left Twitter so it’s diminished even more.
In the end I decided to do it for two main reasons. The first is that after I spoke to some of the people who participate year after year they made it clear they’d miss the fundraiser if it was gone, and the second is because we can do some good. We CAN do some good, even if the monetary amount of that may be decreased due to visibility and burn out, every little bit counts. And we can do at least a least a little bit.
Can you tell us a bit about your goal?Â
My goal is 50,000 words of fiction. I picked that goal because that is the goal I usually aim for in November, because in November I am usually doing NaNoWriMo. Because I can no longer actually stomach the thought of supporting NaNoWriMo or participating in their challenge, I’m clearly not… but I can keep the same goal 🙂
I thought about increasing it, but November came so close on the heels of the 3 Day Novel that I wasn’t sure I could pull off more without burning out LOL
What is your favourite thing about the month of November?
My favourite thing about November is that for a very long time now it has been the month where I know I’m going to be doing a lot of writing. Just having that time singled out where writing (not editing, not marketing, just writing) is the priority is amazing and I love it.
This year I would also add the weather — it’s been pretty phenomenal here… even if it IS snowing right now LOL
What book do you wish you could read again for the first time?
My answer would change from day to day, but for today I am going to say either The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle or The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.
Is a hot dog a sandwich?
No. I just put this question in here to troll people a little bit 😉 You know it’s not a sandwich because no one ever says, ‘a hot dog sandwich’ unless they are also being a troll.
