Camp NaNoWriMo

I may be crazy. Ah hell, I might as well own it, right? I am crazy.

I just signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo for June. Camp NaNoWriMo is the same as regular NaNoWriMo but it takes place in June or August rather than November.

I signed up because I’ve really been struggling with writing new fiction this year. I’ve created several poems I’m really fond of, but when it comes to fiction I haven’t written anything new all year. I’ve re-written a few stories, and I’m up to my eyeballs with HTRYN revisions on Twixt, but brand new from nothing drafts? Nada. In five months. That’s unacceptable.

So, that’s where Camp NaNoWriMo comes in.

I have a story I’m meant to be working on with Danica. It’s called Hollow Children and the idea is that I’m going to write it and then she will illustrate it. I’ve decided to make it my Camp NaNo project. Perhaps the daily word counts, accountability and a NaNo-light atmosphere will help me get it done. It will then sit for a few months until I find time to revise it, but it will be written and maybe that will break through this wall in my brain that is keeping me from getting any new fiction written.

Or, maybe I’m just crazy.

    1. I’m really burned out on NaNoWriMo so it mostly inspires fatique for me lol However, I’m hoping that Camp NaNoWriMo won’t because the “crowd” will be smaller and I can be all self-absorbed and stuff 🙂

      I like cheerleaders though!

  1. Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog and commenting. I am not much of a writer but my teen daughter participated in this challenge last fall and a Scriptaroma (??? not sure what it was called but same idea only writing a movie type script) last month. Will have to tell her about this!

    1. I think Script Frenzy was last month. That’s a challenge by the same people behind NaNoWriMo but it’s to write a script, not a novel. I’ve never participated (though I did sigh up one year LOL) but someday I’d like to.

I hope your daughter enjoys Camp NaNo if she decides to join in 🙂

  2. I had a go at NaNoWriMo last year and failed miserably. I don’t think I did enough research beforehand. I might have another go this year but I’ll wait until November I think. I can psyche myself up for it then.

    Good luck with Camp Nano!

    1. I failed at NaNoWriMo for two years and then was successful for the next six. If NaNo is something you really want to do, I hope you hang in there, because maybe you just needed a trial run.

And thank you for the wishes of luck. I will need them LOL I’m jumping into this pretty blind, I have NO idea what is going to happen in this story. Whee!

  3. I did NaNoWriMo two years in a row and decided I wouldn’t do it this year as I really need to work on the stories that I did write. I always thought November was a tough month to do it, so I was surprised to see this… maybe I’ll do this CampNaNo next year! Good luck.

    1. I skipped NaNo this year too. I just wasn’t feeling it. I’m not actually sure I’m feeling Camp NaNo either, but the kick in the butt ought to be a good thing LOL We’ll see…

  4. This sounds like a good idea. I might join up. November always gets too hectic for me to put aside a good amount of writing time.

        1. I’ll add you to my list of requested Cabin mates.

I’m getting pretty nervous about this now, because I’m really going in totally blind LOL I may be doing it in August because I’ve failed for June. We’ll see, we’ll see…

  5. Hey, that’s pretty kewl that NaNoWriMo’s doing something for the summer! It tends to be, for the average individual, a better time of year to write, eh? I tried the November one in 2008 and failed to get to 50K, though I did start a novel I think holds promise. Good for you, for signing up for the camp! I need to tackle some major revisions for a different project, or I might’ve joined you.

    Some Dark Romantic

    1. I’m in the middle of major revisions on another project myself and I’m deluding myself into thinking I can do both. LoL I guess we’ll see.

  6. Hi! I’m doing a blog post featuring links to as many bloggers as possible who are blogging about participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. Would it be alright with you if I include a link to your blog?
