A Good Day

I had a good day yesterday, no, actually, it was a great day. Days like that don’t come along very often.

First, my short story Axe was chosen to appear in the first ever print edition of Demon Minds. Yay! I was very excited about having it accepted for the online version a few weeks ago, but I’m one of those writers who love, love, loves to see their work in actual print. Axe is the most disturbing story I’ve ever written, though, so it’s exciting and nerve-wracking to know it is going to print.

Also in the category of nerve-wracking is that I heard back from one of the agents I’d queried about Blood and Stone (which I’ve renamed Swamp Story). She requested a partial. *squee* I’m so excited, but nervous too. Keep your fingers crossed for me…

But wait, there’s more!

The day before yesterday I got an email from Carolyn Clink inviting me to read some of my poetry at an open mic event during World Fantasy. I don’t intend to read, but I hope to attend and listen, and I did do a little fan-girl squeal and bounce in my seat at reading the email. It was sent to me and a few other people, but we were all mentioned by name in the body of the email. Yes, I really did think ‘Oh my god, Carolyn Clink wrote me an email, she totally knows I’m alive!’. Yup. For those of you not familiar with Carolyn, she’s a very talented poet and she is married to Robert J. Sawyer. Yup. So full of awesome.

But, more about yesterday…

I’d entered a contest a few days ago and I got the email yesterday that I’d won! I would include a link here to the book I won, but um…I don’t have the link yet. Once I do, I’ll share it 🙂

Last, but certainly not least, my copies of Lost Innocence arrived yesterday. They look amazing! I can’t wait for people to see them, they are so gorgeous. Now I just need to figure out how to get them to the post office (I don’t drive and 40 books are heavy). I suspect they will be being mailed out in waves.

So yes, I had a fantastic day yesterday. Have you ever had a day like that? I’d love to hear about it.

Abominations

Abominations

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this here already — I tend to try and keep things to myself until they are so official my paranoid little brain doesn’t need to worry about jinxing them, so I may not have 🙂 However, I got the contract today, so now I can brag 🙂

Abominations is a brand new anthology by Shroud Publishing. It includes “13 spine-tingling tales of murderous monsters” and one of those tales, is written by yours truly. That’s right. My short story, Spoiled Picnic, is included in this anthology which is now available for pre-ordering.

Am I proud?

Hell yes. How cool is that title? Abominations. *purrs* I love it. And the cover? To die for (though it does look better full-size than it does in my ‘shrunk-down’ version 🙂 ).

Yay me! 🙂

That’s not very professional-sounding is it? Hmm…well, still, yay me 🙂

Inspiration Accepted at NewMyths

W00t! Not very professional, I know, but I really needed this day to end on a high note and it has courtesy of an acceptance notice from NewMyths for my poem, Inspiration. Yay! The release of the issue with Inspiration is TBA, but I’m just happy to be accepted again and looking forward to seeing my poem grace the pages of NewMyths once again.

So I reiterate — W00t!

Tapestry on Oysters and Chocolate

I just got an email from the wonderful editors of “Oysters and Chocolate” accepting another of my poems for thier site. “Tapestry”, yet another BDSM flavored poem is due to grace their pages in February of 2008. I really love this market, as you may have noticed. It’s professional, paying and they respond to submissions in a reasonable amount of time. Tapestry is my third poem to be accepted there and I hope it won’t be the last.

Sister Margaret Accepted at Pantechnicon

One of my favorite short stories, that I’ve written anyway, has been accepted at Pantechnicon for their December issue. I’ll be sure and post a link when it goes live. I’m incredibly flattered to have my story reprinted at Pantechnicon as there is no disputing the quality of the fiction they publish.

Yay!

Also yay is that so far I have continued to resist the urge to revise Blood and Stone. So far. That’s related because Sister Margaret is one of the short stories I’m considering including. 🙂

Accepted @ Shine

I’ve been lucky enough to have two pieces accepted for the January issue of Shine 🙂 My flash piece, “Not So Smart” will be published as will a short and, sadly, true poem called “Coffee”. I will, of course, post a link when they go live, but in the meantime I just wanted to brag a little 🙂

In an unrelated note (I swear it’s unrelated) Shine is having a flash fiction contest. I can’t enter because since I am such a regular submitter Pamela has asked me to be a judge. I’m incredibly flattered and I can’t wait to read all the entries — but if you write flash fiction you should enter. There’s no entry fee and there are some pretty good prizes, so head on over and check it out.

In NaNoWriMo news my word count is just over 43,000 words and my daughter, who is ten and set herself a word goal of 10,000 is at just over 4,000 🙂 Yay!

I tried to enable commenting on this post but in less than two hours I’d already been swamped with spam. Sorry 🙁

Accepted @ The Flask Review

My flash piece, Not So Smart, has been accepted for Issue #12 at The Flask Review.  Yay.

“Not So Smart” is a story that was inspired by a Word of the Week prompt at NaNoLJers.  Again, I find myself surprised by the high proportion of WotW stories I’ve written that have found homes in markets, surprised, but happily.  I think I’ll take this as a cue to write some more WotW stories, now all I need to do is fine some “spare” time before November arrives and brings NaNoWriMo with it.

I’ll post a link to the story once it’s published 🙂

So Much Good News :)

This week is starting off with a bang — I’ve got reams of good news. First of all, my poem, Cock-a-roach has been accepted and in fact, published at Poets Against War. That’s hardly a ream all by itself though is it? Nope 🙂

My drabble, “Sex on the Beach” has been accepted at SHINE! and should be published in October -and- my short story, “This Year’s Toy” has been accepted for the next issue of DiddleDog (and is online now).

Lastly, my short story, “Absinthe Eyes” has been accepted for publication at UR-Paranormal in the very near future.

That, surely, counts as reams of good news, don’t you think? 🙂
