I haz headshots.
This is actually super remarkable because these days I don’t like being on that side of the camera, but since I’m being asked for author photos more and more often I sucked it up and got the pictures taken. I’d still rather be the photographer than the subject, but I now have two spiffy new pictures to choose from when someone asks me for an author photo.
I bought two headshots because I couldn’t decide between them. I thought I was being clever by getting both, but I’ve just realised that having both means instead of having to pick between them once, I now have to make that choice each time someone asks for an author photo. So… kinda outsmarted myself on that one, didn’t I?
Though, the more I look at them, the more I think I prefer the top one. Danica likes the bottom though so… maybe I’ll just flip a coin each time I need to send one out LoL
That’s not the only internal conflict that comes with these pictures though. When I got them done there were two options for purchasing — the fully airbrushed version, or the one I went with where only the background is re-touched (I dunno though, that background doesn’t seem to have any blemishes that need fixing that I can see LOL). It was not easy to pick the more natural photographs. Not easy at all. In the end I went with them though because while I may not like everything about how I look, well, it is how I look, so what’s the point in hiding from it?
Also? The un-retouched photos were less than half the price of the airbrushed ones. That may have had something to do with my decision too. Maybe.

Great head shots, Rhonda! I actually had no idea what you look like, because in your old profile photo, your hair is hiding your face.
I think you look great. The smiling one is my favourite. 🙂
Hiding my face with my hair is a trick I learned in elementary school and never quite out grew LoL
Thank you, Holli. I think the smiling one is winning the most votes, I suspect I’ll use it more than the other.
I like them both. Pick one for “author” photos and the other for “editor and publisher” photos!
That’s a pretty good idea, dude. I might just do that LOL
Aww, lovely! I like them both, but like the smiling one more. 🙂 I like the idea of using one for editor/publisher work and one for author work. Or whatever you feel like doing! I wanted to applaud you for picking the non-touched up ones. I don’t think anyone is ever happy with how they look, so it takes bravery to make a choice like that (also… the money thing). But you needn’t worry, ’cause you’re beautiful. 🙂
Aww thank you 🙂
Picking the non-touched up ones was a difficult choice. Harder than I’d have guessed it would be, but I think I made the right one. I’m glad you think so too because I truly respect your opinion 🙂
I see no reason for you to fear being subject instead of photographer. You look lovely. And having one serious and one smiling is smart. Depending on the interview, story, etc. under consideration, one or the other expression will be more appropriate.
Bravo for the courage to overcome your reluctance.
Thank you Cat 🙂
They both great! I’d use the top one for authory stuff and the bottom one for editory stuff. You want to be smiling as you tinker with peoples’ work, lol!
LoL you *definitely* want to be smiling as you’re tinkering with other people’s work 🙂
I vote for the bottom one! You look so friendly and accessible. You look friendly in the first one, too, but your smile is bigger in the second. You’re right–I never thought about it before. You’ll have to choose between them every time! I have seen authors use two on their websites, though. One for the main page and one for the bio page, for instance.
LoL Everyone seems like the bottom one best, except me. It’s growing on me though…
Great head shots! You have a beautiful smile in the second one.
Thank you, Kris. I’m pretty pleased with them 🙂
It’s nice to know what you look like, Rhonda! (I like the smiley one too).
I’ve been thinking about getting proper headshots done myself, so perhaps I’ll be brave like you and finally get it organised.
Thank you!
The pictures were definitely a much bigger mountain in my mind than in reality, that’s for sure.
