Pontypool

I’m obsessed with Pontypool.

Go ahead, say it out loud.

Pontypool.

It’s fun 🙂

It’s also a brilliant movie and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since Jo, Danica and I saw it a couple weeks ago. It’s not perfect but the ‘plot holes’ and parts I don’t understand are actually endearing to me, not off-putting.

I got an email that my copy of Pontypool Changes Everything has shipped today and I’m ridiculously excited. I haven’t been this excited about a book in ages.

How about you? What was the last book that made you *squee* at its purchase or impending arrival?

Winners :)

So I gave away a couple free copies of Sister Margaret yesterday. The first, was given to a random subscriber to my newsletter — Helene won that one. Congrats! The second went to Wired for commenting on my blog post at Fang-tastic Books.

I hope you both enjoy it.

🙂

In other news, I have been getting friend requests at my defunct Bebo account (I only made it to keep up with my sister who doesn’t use it anymore). I don’t even know my login information for that one anymore. A better way to connect if you’re interested, is Facebook. I spend far more time than is healthy on Facebook LoL I think those links will take you directly to my profile, if not I shouldn’t be too hard to find 🙂

Sister Margaret Release Day

Sister Margaret

Today is the day. Sister Margaret is now available as a Coffee Break Selection from Eternal Press. Yay!

>> Click Here to read an excerpt and see how to order <<

Sister Margaret is a short story about a vampire hunter and a half-incubus swordsman who are hired by a priestess to take care of an undead pimp. It’s been called ‘…a gritty tale of cross and double cross’ by one reviewer and received several glowing recommendations from others.

I am so very proud of this story, I hope everyone who buys it loves it and I’ll be watching my Fictionwise ratings (when it becomes available on Fictionwise in a few days) with avid attention. Despite all the good reviews its received I’m very nervous on behalf of ‘Sister Margaret’. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it’s well-received LOL

To celebrate the launch of Sister Margaret I am giving away a free copy to one lucky subscriber to my Newsletter. I’ll be announcing the winner later on today or early tomorrow. I will also be guestblogging over at Fang-tastic Books today and giving away a copy to someone who leaves a comment there. It’s going to be quite a day. 🙂

Calendar Fail

Apparently I fail at calendars. It’s sad but true. Did you know that April 7th is Tuesday? If so, then you don’t fail like I do LoL For some reason I kept thinking it was Wednesday so I had things all set up for me to do various chats and pop by a few blogs on Wednesday to celebrate the release of Sister Margaret.

Turns out, that’s not really a good plan LoL

At least I realised it before the 7th, not after. So now I’m re-arranging my life to make sure I can be at the Eternal Press launch party (held on their Yahoo groups) and visit Fang-tastic Books where I’ll be guestblogging and giving away a copy of Sister Margaret. There are several other places I’d like to (virtually) be as well as a rather large to-do list I want to get through, but those are the two big ones.

Have you ever had a calendar fail?

Sister Margaret Reviews

The reviews for Sister Margaret are starting to come in, and they are making me very happy. Yay!

The most recent review was by Puss Reboots and she said, in part, “The vampires therefore are just one of many different species living in the city and are not presented as the mysterious lust-worthy nobility with a dark side as they so often are these days.”

That makes me very happy because I don’t want the vampires in this story to be smooth sex symbols. She also said ““Sister Margaret” reminded me favorably of any number of fantasy short stories I’ve read in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.” Which is flattering just no matter how you look at it.

If you’d like to read the full review you can check it out >> here <<.

Release day is drawing closer. Sister Margaret is being released by Eternal Press on April 7th. If you are subscribed to my Newsletter you can expect a short special announcement to remind you on that day LoL Also, I will be giving a copy away to one random subscriber, I’ll make that announcement on the 7th as well.

Yay for good reviews! They totally make my day 🙂

Scattered Verses, Moonlit Curses

When the editor of ‘The Monsters Next Door’ invited me to submit something to her upcoming poetry anthology I was blown away. I’ve never been personally invited to submit to an anthology before! You can bet your butt I was going to take advantage of the offer 🙂

It was tough though. I put all sorts of pressure on myself to come up with some new poems that would fit her theme (dark, scary and not haiku LoL). In the end I submitted four poems, one of which was a repeat; The Sepultress, Zonnet (a zombie sonnet), Lycantrick (which I co-wrote with Jo) and a set of three werewolf haiku.

She accepted them all. Yay! I think the book is due to be released in May, so hopefully everyone else will like them too once that happens LoL

Rhysling Nomination

My haiku, Lovers, has been nominated for a Rhysling Award!

I probably should have shared that in a more restrained manner, but I’m so incredibly honored and flabberghasted that I just had to blurt it out — especially after forcing myself to wait so I could share it first in my newsletter 🙂

Thank you so much to who(m)ever nominated it. You rock. I love you.

Congrats to everyone else who had work nominated this year, especially to my friends Greg Schwartz, Deborah P. Kolodji, Joshua Gage, Marge Simon and her husband Bruce Boston. I’m so very honored to know I will be sharing a table of contents with you all in the 2009 Rhysling Anthology.

Exciting News

I have some pretty exciting news, but I’ve decided to wait and share it first on my newsletter (which comes out on the 15th). Does that make me bratty? I don’t mind if it does, I just thought I’d check 🙂 So if you haven’t signed up yet and you’re intrigued the url is here >> Rhonda’s Newsletter <<. Don’t forget that this month I’m giving away an Amazon gift certificate to one random subscriber.

In other news, that I’m willing to share today, I had a short prose poem published on Outshine today, which is a Twitter zine. Twitter is a very cool thing that I fail at remembering to update or read…but I think having a Twitter-based magazine is a very cool idea. I’m not sure how to link directly to my poem but Outshine’s twitter page is here.

As for the poem. I think under most circumstances I would have written it as a three line poem, but on Outshine you can’t have line breaks and they only publish prose poems. So does having it there and minus line breaks make it a prose poem? I don’ t know, you tell me.

Niteblade Issue 7 and More

March 2009 Issue of Niteblade

So first of all, the new issue of Niteblade is out 🙂 This one is full to bursting with awesome-ness. Seriously. The cover piece is a poem called “Sentry” by Greg Schwartz, a deliciously evil poem that I just adore. There are also poems by Sarah Wagner, Brian Rosenberger, Sheryl Nantus, R. J. Walker Miller, Suzanne Sykora, T. J. Trancell, Lucien E. G. Spelman, Cathy Buburuz, Joshua Gage and Howie Good.

In addition to the poetry, there are great stories by Christian Roberts, Ty Fanck and Emily Mah, Tai Dong Huai, Brandon Satrom, Gregg Winkler, Beth Cato, Kristine Ong Muslim and Lynette Mejia.

I’m not going to review the issue here now because, obviously, I’m biased, but I really think it’s worth checking out. If you read it I’d love to hear what you think. What were your favorites? Which your preffered illustration? (Mine is the picture for Chasing Rabbits I think 😉 ).

In other, completely unrelated news, my erotic short story is in this month’s erotica issue of Sonar 4 E-zine. The Legend of the First Reptar is a story I wrote as an expiremental attempt to successfully combine erotica and fantasy. I really like the story, but agonized over whether to publish it under my real name or not. In the end I did, mostly because the story deals with Reptars which are a race of lizardmen who figure very prominantly in my Aphanasia stories. Because of the nature of this story it’s not suitable to be read by anyone under 18 or who is easily offended. If you enjoy it great, if you’d rather not read it I won’t hold it against you 😉

Newsletter-y Goodness

In just a couple hours I will be sending out this month’s newsletter. I’m holding off because I just posted about this to one of my writing groups and a mailing list so I’m hoping a couple other people will meander over and join. It would be a shame for them to have to wait a month to get their first newsletter (or at least I think so). I’ll hit the ‘send’ button sometime before midnight though 🙂

If you haven’t signed up now is a good time. On my birthday (March 15th) I will be giving away a present. One lucky subscriber will win an Amazon gift certificate. Then, in April, I will be giving away a copy of my latest release — Sister Margaret.

I don’t have a huge amount of subscribers yet, so your odds of winning are pretty darn good. Sign up here if you haven’t already.

Please?

Interview at Abandoned Towers

I was interviewed by Abandoned Towers quite some time ago. Unfortunately there was a delay in posting the interview (my fault, not theirs), but it’s up now! You can check it out >> Interview with Rhonda Parrish << if you’d like. It’s not my best interview, but I don’t sound like a moron either, so that’s got to be good. LoL yes, I do critique my answers to interview questions, doesn’t everyone?

In other, completely unrelated news my friend S.G. Browne has got a cool widget now so you can read the first chapter of his upcoming zombie novel BREATHERS online right now. I recommend checking it out. The first chapter is what sucked me into the book and made me decide to pre-order it even before I met Scott and found out I liked him too. Clicky Clicky.

I write, I edit and I take a lot of naps.
