And The Winners Are…

A is for Apocalypse edited by Rhonda Parrish, cover design by Jonathan Parrish

And the Rafflecopter has spoken. Our winners are:

a Rafflecopter giveaway

In addition I held a separate far less technical draw (where I had Danica’s friend she was skyping with pick a number LoL) to choose the winner of the draw for hosting our cover reveal, and the winner was Steve Bornstein. Steve, Lori, Ana and Marlene you will all receive an ARC of A is for Apocalypse 🙂

I will email all the winners tomorrow (it’s a long weekend here so I’m loathe to be at the computer more than I have to be LOL). If you didn’t win and you’d like another chance, be sure and subscribe to our mailing list to be notified when A is for Apocalypse is available. I will also notify that mailing list of any future giveaways.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this cover reveal, whether by hosting, signal boosting or stopping by to take a peek and toss your name in the hat. It wouldn’t have been the same without you 🙂

Tis More Blessed

'Tis More Blessed - graphic

In October Milo James Fowler hosted ‘Creepy Freebies’ in which I gave away issues of Niteblade as well as a Halloween-themed goodie bag. This month he’s back with a holiday themed giveaway and I’m participating again.

And have I got goodies for you!

First there is Niteblade. Our issue #23, Blodeuwedd is available for you to download completely free. Pick your preferred format and enjoy:

Niteblade, Issue #23: BlodeuweddBlodeuwedd in .mobi

Blodeuwedd in .ePub

Blodeuwedd in .pdf

But wait! There’s more!

I had so much fun putting together the last goodie bag that I’m going to raffle off another one. Where the first was Halloween themed this one is going to have a secular Christmas (I like to call it Giftmas) theme. All things considered it is unlikely to reach the winner before December 25th, but hopefully it will provide a smile and some fun when it does arrive anyway 🙂

The goodie bag will definitely include a physical copy of Niteblade’s special poetry issue (.pdf and print) as well as a proof copy of my book, Aphanasian Stories. Beyond that it’s a mystery. The goodies may include contributor copies of publications I’ve been included in (publishers often send two, I only need one), bookmarks, crafty bits, candy or… well, anything I think is awesome that will fit in the envelope.

I will also give away some copies of the latest issue of Niteblade. That would be Issue #26: A Fixer-Upper. Which is also known as our ghost story issue 🙂 I’ll draw the name of one winner of a copy of Niteblade for every 5 people who enter the draw (people, not entries). The more people who enter, the more will win, so please spread the word.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

This raffle will run for just over a week, and you can earn entries for tweeting everyday (and if you don’t like my preset tweet go ahead and change it, just leave the #TisMoreBlessed hashtag in).

Once you’ve entered head on over to Milo James Fowler’s website to find out who else is giving away goodies this Friday, and every Friday this month!

(I’m posting this a bit early because reasons)

Fall Into Fantasy

Fall Into Fantasy 2013

We’re going to take a short break from Metastasis interviews today to talk about Fall Into Fantasy giveaway. Hosted by Ash Krafton, Fall Into Fantasy is a huge book (and swag) giveaway. More than 50 writers participated this year, which makes for a HUGE selection of goodies that you can win.

There are so many prizes being offered that the Rafflecopter can look a little intimidating (at least to me) but there are a lot of really easy entries to get. You get three entries every day you tweet about this giveaway, for example, and if doing giveaway shout outs aren’t your thing you can also earn entries by leaving a blog comment, following me (or Niteblade) on Twitter, checking out Niteblade Magazine or hooking up with me on Goodreads. Also? There are 50+ other authors who you can earn entries by friending/following/whatevering. And who knows, maybe you’re friends with some of them already. So try not to get overwhelmed by the Rafflecopter and enter. You can’t win if you don’t enter, and here are just some of the books that are being given away:

BookBox: embed book widget, share book list

That’s just a FEW of them. Personally I donated a bunch of stuff to the swag bundles plus copies of Aphanasian Stories and Niteblade. So take a look at the Rafflecopter below and earn yourself a few entries because, free books. 🙂

Good luck!

Published: Bedtime Story

Tesseracts 17I am honored and proud beyond words that my story, “Bedtime Story”, is included in Tesseracts Seventeen: Speculating Canada From Coast to Coast. Having my work included in a Tesseracts anthology was totally a bucket list item for me, and you can bet that now that I’ve done it once, I very much want to do it again, and again, and again 🙂

I woke up one morning from an incredibly vivid and stylized dream and I quickly scribbled the words:

I was hiding in my parents’ closet with a friendly lamp who promised to stay the night with me, and Laura, a battle-scarred doll of my mother’s.”

I had so many ideas for this story based on that dream, ideas that involved dragons, witches, goblins and rats. It took me a very long time to mentally construct the story, cutting out several of the original elements until only the strongest remained. It took me even longer to be brave enough to put my pen to paper and start to write — I was totally intimidated by the story. I felt like it had the potential to be the best thing I’d written and I didn’t want to screw it up.

Once I finally did write it, it turned out I was right — it was the best story I’d written up until that time. I love it, and I hope you’ll pick up a copy of Tesseracts to check it out for yourself (not to mention all the incredible other authors who I’m sharing a table of contents with!).

In the meantime, Tesseracts Seventeen is officially being released today, and EDGE Publishing is having an online book launch for it. You can check it out here — Bitten By Books Online Launch of Tesseracts Seventeen and $50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway. Over the next 24 hours or so all the contributors to Tesseracts Seventeen will be popping by to chat, answer questions and all that good stuff so consider popping over to see what’s going on. I was going to say you can also enter by using the Rafflecopter code below… but I’m not 100% sure that comments or questions left on my personal blog will count, so to be 100% safe, pop over to Bitten By Books and comment there. Despite the name, I’m pretty sure none of us will bite 🙂

Good luck winning that Gift Card, and also if you pop over, tell them I sent you. I think they are keeping track LOL

Schtuff

Durr

Right. So, today when I got home from Thanksgiving dinner there was an email in my inbox asking for a high resolution photo of myself for use in some of the promo stuff for Tesseracts 17. Ever since I became overweight I’ve tried to mostly stay on the other side of the camera (I know it’s not a good thing, I know, but I do it anyway) so I don’t have any high resolution photographs of myself, so I asked Jo to snap a couple

The one up there? That was my favourite. I chose a slightly more professional one to send to the people at EDGE though 🙂

Speaking of Tesseracts 17, it has a trailer. I think this is the first book I’ve been in that had a trailer. You can check it out here:

Also in the category of ‘schtuff’ don’t forget that I’m still giving away copies of Niteblade and running a raffle for a super awesome grab bag of goodies. You can get links to the Niteblade issues by following that link, but because I’m so super awesome I’m going to re-post the rafflecopter stuff here so you don’t have to go anywhere to enter that draw 🙂

Lastly, don’t forget that Metastasis is coming out on Tuesday. I’m super proud of this book and I can’t wait to share it with the world. What’s more, I’ll be hosting mini interviews with some of the contributors in the days following the release so you’ll want to pop by to check them out too.

Finally? Happy Thanksgiving fellow Canadians! And if you’re not Canadian, well, I hope you have a fabulous weekend anyway 😉

Bewitching Book Tour

I wanted to do a virtual book tour for the release of Aphanasian Stories but April was so crazy I knew I wasn’t going to have time to set it up, so instead I booked a couple tours with websites who would do all that stuff for me 🙂 The first is the Bewitching Book tour. I’m going to be all over the interwebz on this one 🙂

Aphanasian Stories

Aphanasian Stories by Rhonda ParrishAphanasian Stories.

I’ve bundled up three of the stories I’ve written which were set in Aphanasia into a collection I have cleverly titled Aphanasian Stories, and it’s now available for you 🙂 Including in this collection of re-released stories are Lost and Found, which was originally given away here on this blog, A Love Story, which was originally published by Sam’s Dot Publishing as Shades of Green and Sister Margaret which was originally published by Wild Child Publishing.

~*~

A Love Story: Z’thandra, a swamp elf living with the Reptar, discovers a human near the village. When she falls in love with him, she faces the most difficult choice of her life, a decision that will affect the Reptar for generations.

Lost and Found: Xavier, the escaped subject of a madman’s experiments, and Colby, a young lady on a mission to save her brother, must combine their efforts to elude capture and recover the magical artifact that will save Colby’s brother before it’s too late.

Sister Margaret: A vampire hunter and a half-incubus swordsman are hired by a priestess to kill the undead pimp that is extorting, torturing and murdering vulnerable girls.

~*~

The physical copies of these books are fan-freaking-tastic, no word of a lie. The original art is the illustration I commissioned from Darek Zabrocki long ago for Lost and Found and Jo (my husband) had turned it into the sort of wrap around cover that dreams are made of (mine anyway). However, if you like to read electronic books I’ve got good news for you. The Kindle version of Aphanasian Stories is available for free for May 15th and 16th.

Enjoy 🙂

D: December 2011

Niteblade poetry issue, original cover art by Marge SimonThis is the original cover art Marge Simon created for our December 2011 special poetry only print issue of Niteblade Magazine. That issue was the last one I worked on as poetry editor (Alexandra Seidel and I co-edited it). After that the mantle of Poetry Editor fell to her.  It’s a tough thing, giving up control of something like that, but it’s been a good thing for me and for Niteblade.

Our poetry only issue was an interesting learning experience. I learned things about writing submission guidelines, about soliciting submissions directly from specific authors, about working with another person to make editorial decisions. I learned about formatting things for printers, and finding printers, and judging printers and I remembered why I usually go with POD printers LOL I also discovered that selling a physical book of poetry is a lot different than selling an electronic book of poetry and prose.

I am very proud of our poetry issue (for it’s content, not just what it taught me) and it just so happens that I have *mumble* copies sitting in a box in my bedroom closet. I’d like to see some of those find homes with people who will read and appreciate them. If that is you please leave a comment to this blog entry. At the end of the month I will send out three copies to random commentators. It could be you 🙂

A2Z-2013-BADGE-001Small_zps669396f9This post has been written as a part of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. My theme this year is ‘Niteblade‘, which is the magazine I publish. I chose this theme to help draw attention to the magazine during this, it’s 2nd annual fundraiser.

My first post in this series was about choosing stories and poems to nominate for awards and I’ve gone through a similar process in deciding what to write about for these posts. Not only did I have to choose stories and poems I loved, but they also had to fit with the A-Z theme. Tricky!

Aphanasian Stories Giveaway

Aphanasian Stories by Rhonda ParrishWhen you combine Lost and Found, Shades of Green (with a new title) and Sister Margaret into one self-published collection you get Aphanasian Stories. Clever title, no? LoL This book is available now but I don’t have time to promote it yet so what I’m going to do is pretend that it’s not available. Yet. Come the middle of May when the Niteblade fundraiser, Blogging from A to Z, Camp NaNo and April Poem a Day are done, and I’ve recovered a little bit, I’m going to officially release this book.

My plan is to do some intensive promotion over the first five days (May 15-19th) and I’d love for you to be a part of that. If you have a blog that accepts guest posts, does interviews or book reviews please get a hold of me (rhonda@jofigure.com). I would really like to send you a copy for review or make an appearance and share my book with your readers. I promise not to be spammy 🙂

If you don’t have a blog, I’d still like for you to be a part of this launch. I’m giving away three copies of Aphanasian Stories on Goodreads. You could be one of the lucky winners, all you have to do is enter at the website.

Sick

I’m sick. I don’t do sick well, I turn into a whiny, sniffly, self-pitying mess. Good times! So I spent most of yesterday doing those things, which is why I didn’t get a blog entry done. Today I’m feeling slightly better, so I’m whining less, but still feel like I’m in a cold medication-induced brain fog. So, my blog entry is going to be a mindless and shameless self-interested plug. Forgive me?

I’m giving away a copy of Shades of Green at Goodreads. You should enter to win 🙂

We Have A Winner!

So, I consulted the random number generator and it chose a winner from the subscribers of my mailing list. It did, and I’m pleased to announce the Patricia W. will receive a free copy of Shades of Green just as soon as she emails me and sends me her mailing address. I have also dropped her an email to let her know.

Congrats Patricia!

Do you want to win a copy too? Like I said I’ll be running a contest closer to the release of Lost and Found to give away a copy of Shades of Green, but instead of having to like, think of something interesting to blog about, I’ve also decided to do another giveaway on GoodReads:
